The grass is cut, the field is marked, the mower’s awaiting collection but Misty the dog has showed up 24 hours early to show off her tricks at the dog show! See you tomorrow!
Still time to follow the scarecrow trail – come and see the scarecrows all together at Ben Rhydding Community Fete
This year’s Ben Rhydding Community Fete will be held on the Valley Drive field, off Wheatley Lane, on Saturday June 16th from 2 – 4pm.
With no charge for admission, a free programme and numerous attractions there should be something for everyone. Amongst the attractions are stalls, games, croquet competitions, a raffle and a bouncy castle, a full arena entertainment programme of singing, dancing and gymnastics, as well as tea and beer tents, a barbecue and plenty of ice cream.
“We aim to add a new attraction each year,” says committee chair Mrs Karen Palframan, “and this year, we’re hoping to have a fun dog show. So do watch this space.”
The Fete is organised by the community for the community with all those involved being volunteers and over the years has proved itself an ever popular event on the local calendar, with many local community groups, schools, sports clubs, churches and charities taking part.
The first Fete was held in 2006. “So this will be our thirteenth,” says Karen and adds, “we could really do with more volunteers on the day itself to help with the wide variety of tasks involved, but what we also really need right now, is a new secretary.”
This year’s event will also include the culmination of the third Ben Rhydding Scarecrow Festival along with a scarecrow fancy dress competition. All the scarecrows from the Scarecrow Festival which runs Monday 28th May to 16th June, will be on show in the Scarecrow Garden at the Fete where the winners of the best categories will be announced.
So preparations are well under way for another fun-filled family afternoon ,” And hopefully a sunny one!” says Karen.
